Another flickr find. Please stop snowing.

These are by erin jane nelson's collection Girl's Don't Cry Either. She said, "Girls Don't Cry, Either" is a series of pictures made about the interim between adolescence and adulthood. Specifically, they deal with dreams and expectation of an impending new life. The majority of the images were made in the first person, or rather, were shot in the midst of these feelings and ideas from the time I turned 17 until I moved away from home."

This is called "Diagram #1: The gum I chewed every time I thought you might kiss me while your parents were in Ohio" I absolutely love the title, it really makes the piece. This is by Aaron Fowler, a boy who went to Manual. His Senior art show was awesome, but I haven't seen it online ever.

This is by tierney gearon. My good friend DJ Corney, who makes awesome things on his blog (check him out), showed me an article about her today. I hadn't been looking at anyone's double exposures for a while and it was nice to see a few good ones again.

I've been looking at asofterworld.com for years. I love it so much. Please look at it if you haven't already.

This one is by Brandon Taelor. I love the light, the wrinkles, the pose.

I found these in the Visual Resource Center by William Eggleston. I like digging through all the slides down there.

This is by Petit, one of my flickr contacts. It's interesting seeing all these different places!

So David Brandon Geeting came into town and was at the nunnery. I gave him a roll of film, so I had to see what he did with it, and I ended up not wasting it.

These are by Chelsea Dirck, a girl I found o flickr. I think the text is cute and I like how she added it with the image.

why haven't i seen this before

Why haven't I seen anything by Robert Frank before? He has an obscene amount of wonderful photographs, usually only one or two really stand out to me when I'm looking through someone's work, but I enjoyed the majority of his pieces. I know I'm getting way more into text lately, but wow. Also, his work really has a sense of relaying a story and showing the passage of time. I think I would like to work with contact sheets the way he did in the first piece I posted.

window light

This one is by Walde Huth, called "33rd Letter". I think I'm just really into windows right now.

The light in this one is beautiful, it's so clean and quiet. Plus, there are more windows! This one is by Rob Brannigan.

more from the art library

I can't pretend like I'm not in love with all those really cliche pictures of cute European cafes and markets. This one is by Eugene Atget. He has a lot of really nice shots of alley's and boats in the book I looked at today.

I hadn't seen this one from Dorthea Lange before. It reminds me of what Jimmy might be thinking about for his shelter project. It's titled "Young Mother and Son", which confuses me because she looks pretty old. I guess that's what having babies during the depression does to people.

I love this one from Chris Marker's book Staring Back. That's all. I just love it.

library discoveries

I discovered Jim Dine for the first time today. The first one is "Sappho and the Window #3" and the one below is "A Study of Time". I think for my still-life I want to incorporate text and photographs, maybe polaroids into the image. I really like the idea of photographing different objects on my bed, because that deals with the concept of photographing my interior as an autobiography, while covering the guidelines for my still-life assignment. I'm so excited about portraying nostalgia a little bit this semester, along with what I'm already doing, maybe at the same time!!!

I really love Kathleen M. Saker's work in general, specifically her collection called "the unmade bed." I think it gets a little repetitive, just being beds and all, but a few of the images are really lovely. I want to take that idea, add a little oomph, shoot black and white squares, and shoot all over people's spaces- not just beds. http://web.mac.com/ksanker/kathleen_m._sanker_photography_/the_unmade_bed.html

I really like this one by William Eggleston from his book Morals of Vision. The light is beautiful and it reminds me of what I'm trying to do right now with my pictures. It just feels really natural, not forced like so many photographers.

random flickr finds

This is by April Miller from Nashville. I love the muted colors and softness of this shot. Plus, I think the deer head in what looks like a hotel room is really weird. She can be found here: http://www.flickr.com/people/giveupthegoat/

This is by Joelle Workman, a girl I met a few weeks ago from Clarkston, Michigan. I really love photographs that have a sense of quietness and nostalgia in them, and I think this accomplishes that well. You can find more of her pictures at: http://www.flickr.com/people/joelleworkman/
